A shimmery eyeshadow is the perfect finishing touch to any look. Whether it’s a champagne gold for brow bone highlights or a deep intergalactic reflective purple shade to add depth and drama to your look, shimmery eyeshadow is a great way to enhance a natural eye color and make eyes pop. There are several types of shimmery eyeshadow, from metallics to mattes, and it’s important to find a product that works for you. “Liquid eyeshadows are a great choice because they’re more user-friendly than powder formulas and typically offer less fallout,” makeup artist Manuel Espinoza tells InStyle. Liquid shimmer eyeshadow also feels lightweight on the skin, he says, and it’s long-wearing.
Adding some shine to your eyeshadow is as easy as sweeping on a sheer shimmer. “The warmth of your finger helps to diffuse the color and make it look more natural,” Espinoza says. “Liquid shimmers also tend to be more pigmented than powder, so you can get a solid, opaque swatch with one swipe.”
If you’re looking for something a little more glittery and sparkly, opt for a liquid shimmer in a more vivid color. “Like the fiery orange Hot Lava or sultry purple Super Star, these shades may seem sheer at first but the light catches them and reflects them as bold hues,” Espinoza says.
You can also use a liquid shimmer as an eyeliner or highlighter. It’s important to note that while these shades are incredibly versatile, you should always use them with caution as the glitter can irritate sensitive eyes. To reduce this risk, a small patch test is recommended before applying any product over the eyes.
In the Labor of Love update, Shimmer was added to the game as a new type of liquid that spawns in the Aether Cave biome. The player can collect Shimmer from the ground by walking on it, and it can be tossed into the Aether Monolith to create a large pool of the substance. Throwing a coin into Shimmer increases the player’s Coin Luck, and some items, enemies, and NPCs (specifically their sprites) will be transformed when they are thrown in it.
NPCs and enemies that cannot be transformed will simply turn invisible in the pool, while craftable items will be decrafted, unless they are Potions, which will still be produced to avoid duplicate ingredients. Items that require multiple blocks to craft will downgrade into a Shimmer Block when crafted, unless they are a Hardmode item.
In addition, some projectiles will bounce upwards off of the Shimmer block, including Bullets, Gem Staves’ projectiles, Portal Gun portals, and Fallen Stars. This is especially useful for obtaining items that would otherwise be unobtainable, as the player can simply return to the Shimmer block after a few seconds of inactivity.
